The God Who Speaks

10. God Speaks Through Direct Encounters

There are times when God breaks in with extraordinary, unmistakable encounters, such as audible voices, angelic visitations, or overwhelming awareness of his presence. These moments are not always common but often life-changing. They mark people forever and propel them into new callings.

Consider Moses:

“And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush…God called to him out of the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’”
(Exodus 3:2,4)

Or Paul:

“Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground he heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’”
(Acts 9:3–4)

These direct encounters with God transformed their lives - Moses became Israel’s deliverer, and Paul became an apostle to the Gentiles.

While not everyone will have experiences this dramatic, many believers can recall moments of overwhelming conviction, vision, or a profound sense that God was tangibly present. Even today, God sometimes visits people in dreams or visions, especially where the Gospel has not yet been heard.

If God gives you a direct encounter, it will always align with Scripture, point to Jesus, not self, and produce humility and awe.

Reflection:
Have you ever had a moment when God’s presence felt undeniable? Ask him to keep your heart soft and ready to hear him in any way he chooses.
