The God Who Speaks
8. God Speaks Through Peace & Inner Confirmation
Another way God can guide is by giving us an inner witness; a profound sense of peace, clarity, or conviction that settles in our hearts. This does not mean we will never feel nervous or stretched, but when something is of God, there is often a deep assurance that transcends our circumstances.
Paul wrote to the Philippians about this supernatural peace:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:6–7)
When faced with choices, you may have two options: one seems logical but brings turmoil, whereas the other feels risky but brings a settled peace. Many followers of Jesus can testify to times when God’s peace confirmed the right path, even when it did not make sense outwardly. This peace is not the absence of difficulty, but the presence of God himself.
It is important to note that inner peace alone should not be our only guide - peace must be weighed alongside Scripture, godly counsel, practical wisdom, and the fruits that it produces.
Reflection:
Are you sensing God’s peace or restlessness about a decision? Ask him to let his peace act as the guide in your heart.
